The National Forest Act, 1998 (Act No. 84 of 1998) has been updated with the Annual List of all Tree Species which are protected under Section 12 of the National Forests Act 1998, as per Notice No. 4496 of GG50291, dated 13 March 2024.

 

The National Forest Act, 1998 (Act No. 84 of 1998) has been updated by a Declaration of Certain State Forests Properties in Mpumalanga Province as Forest Nature Reserves under Section 8(2) and 9 of the Act, as per Notice No. 1062 of GG45345, dated 19 October 2021.

 

The National Forest Act, 1998 (Act No. 84 of 1998) has been updated by the publication of the List of Protected Tree Species (2021), as per Notice No. R 155 of GG 44204, dated 1 March 2021.

National Forest and Fire Laws Amendment Act, No. 12 of 2001 – GG 22479 dated 18 July 2001 has been applied to the Act.

 

The National Forest Recreation and Access Trust has been established in terms of section 41(1) of the Act with the Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry as the sole trustee. The Trust is for the benefit of the general public. This was gazetted on 1-12-00 as notice 4554 of 2000 in GG 21787.

The Procedures and Code of Conduct for the National Forests Advisory Council have been added to the Act, as published in Gazette 21566 and dated 22 September 2000.

The period of six months referred to in section 20(5)(a) and 20(6)(b) of this Act, have been extended to a period ending on 31 December 2001.

Notice No. 2450, regarding an Exemption in terms of section 24(6), has been added to the Act.

The National Forests Act, 1998, has been added to the site on 31 January 2000, as published in Gazette 19408. Sections 1-6, 8-17, 22-28, 33-64, 70-80 and all schedules came into operation on 1 April 1999. Sections 19-21, 29-32 and 65-69 have come into operation on the 25 February 2000. Section 7 came into operation on 8 September 2000.
